AISSEE 2020: Sainik School Entrance Exam info (all India)

The All India Sainik School Entrance Exam (AISSEE) is conducted to shortlist the candidates for admission into Sainik schools situated all over India. Selection of the candidates will be done on the basis of this written test followed by medical examination. Admissions will be done for classes 6 and 9, based on the eligibility of the candidates. AISSEE 2020 Main Highlights

  • Application id along with the password generated at the time of registration should be kept safe as it will be used for further login by the candidates.
  • The schools will make their own arrangements for the conduct of the entrance examination.
  • Candidates must make sure that they fulfill the eligibility criteria for admissions, before applying for the exam.
  • Details of the entrance exam and medical exam will be communicated through their respective call letters.
  • The applicants who fail to report for entrance or medical exam will be disqualified and no request in this regard will be entertained.

AISSEE 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Check below the class-wise basic eligibility criteria for appearing in AISSEE 2020:

For class 6:


  • Only boy candidates can apply for the Sainik School admissions.


  • Age of the applying candidates as on 31st March 2020 must be between 10 years and 12 years.

For class 9:


  • Only boy candidates are eligible to appear for AISSEE 2020.


  • The age of students as on 31st March 2020 should be between 13 years and 15 years.


  • Candidates should be studying in class 8th of a recognized school.

AISSEE Application Form 2020

The application form for AISSEE 2020 can be obtained by visiting the official website The candidates/ parents are advised to carefully read the important instructions before they proceed with the submission of the application form. Application fee once submitted will not be refunded.

  • The candidates will have to provide details such as class applied for, their name, date of birth, category, address, parent’s details, etc into the application form.
  • Choice for medium of exam, school and exam center will also be asked in the application form.
  • After saving these details, an ID and password of the candidates will be generated.
  • Uploading scanned copies of candidates’ photograph and signature will be the next step.
  • Once uploading the done, the candidates will have to make payment of the prescribed application fee.
  • After this, candidates are required to upload soft copies of domicile certificate, age certificate and caste certificate.
  • In the last step, the candidates will have to take a printout of the application form and keep it safe.

Application fee:

  • The application fee for the entrance test will be Rs. 400/- for general candidates and Rs. 250/- for SC/ ST candidates.
  • Candidates can pay the application fee through debit card/ credit card/ net banking, as per their convenience.

Admit Card

  • The admit card will be available for download around 1 month before the date of exam on the official website
  • The candidates can download the admit card using their application number and date of birth.
  • The candidates must take a printout of the admit card and carry it to the exam center on the day of exam.
  • No candidate will be allowed to appear for the exam in the absence of admit card.
  • Admit card is an important document that will be required at the time of admission as well and therefore must be kept safe.

For class 6:

  • Mode of exam: The exam will be held in offline mode, i.e. on OMR sheet.
  • Exam duration: Exam will be conducted for the duration of 2:30 hours.
  • Medium of test: Question paper will be in English and all the recognized official languages.
  • Number & type of questions: 125 questions of objective type will be asked in the entrance exam.
  • Total marks: Paper will carry a total of 300 marks.

Answer Key

  • The authorities will upload the answer key of the entrance test few days after the commencement of exam.
  • Answer keys for class 6 and class 9 exams will be released separately on the official website.
  • The candidates should carefully check the answer key of their own paper set- Set A, B or C).
  • Answer key will comprise of the question number- as given in the question booklet) and the corresponding answer option- A, B, C or D) next to it.


  • The entrance exam result will be announced online hopefully in the month of February 2020.
  • Merit list of the candidates who clear the entrance test will be made and published on the official website.
  • Candidates whose names appear in the merit list will be eligible to appear in the medical test.
  • Call letters to such candidates will also be issued providing the details of the date, time and venue of the medical test.

Medical Test & Final Result

  • After clearing the entrance exam, candidates will be invited for their medical examination.
  • A special board will be set up for the medical of the students.
  • Candidates must appear for the medical exam as per the schedule communicated to them through the call letter.
  • After completion of medical exam, the final results of the qualified students will be released.
  • Only the candidates declared medically fit by the established medical board will be allowed to join the school.
  • Final selection is subject to fulfilling the criteria for eligibility and verification of original documents.

Rules for Reservation

  • Out of the totals seats present, 15% seats are reserved for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes category and 7½% seats for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes category.
  • Out of the remaining seats, 67% seats are reserved for boys from the State in which the Sainik School is located.
  • The rest 33% seats will be open to boys from all other States and Union Territories in the ratio of their male population. Any unutilized seats in this category will be merged with home State seats in the order of merit.
  • 25% seats are reserved for children of service personnel including Ex-servicemen.
