JNVST 2020: Navodaya Vidyalaya Admission Form, Date, Eligibility

Admissions into the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) all over the country will be given to the meritorious students on the basis of their performance in JNVST 2020. This is a national-level entrance test conducted by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti for selection of candidates into JNVs. Enrolment is offered only into class VI and IX, where class IX admission is subject to vacancies available, if any. Applications for admissions can be submitted through online mode. JNVST 2020: Important Highlights

  • Students of a JNV located in Hindi speaking State may have to be migrated to another JNV in Non-Hindi Speaking State and vice-versa for one academic year when the students are promoted to Class IX. In case of refusal, continuation of study will not be allowed.
  • Children selected on the basis of the test will be admitted only in the JNV located in the respective district from where they are studying class V or VII, as applicable.
  • Before applying, the candidates must ensure their eligibility as candidates found ineligible at any later stage will be disqualified.
  • It is the responsibility of the candidates to make sure that they receive the question booklet as per the language opted during the application process.
  • In all JNVs a help desk will be available to assist the candidates/ parents with the application process.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Test Eligibility Criteria

The following eligibility criteria must be fulfilled by the candidates applying for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test 2020:

For Class VI

  • Only the candidates from the district concerned where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has been opened are eligible to apply for admission. However, if the district where JNV is opened is divided at a later date, the old boundaries of the district are considered in case no new Vidyalaya has started in the newly formed district.
  • Date of birth of the applying candidates should fall between 1st May 2007 and 30th April 2011 (both dates are inclusive).
  • The student should be studying in class 5th of a recognized school or ‘B’ certificate competency course of National Institute of Open Schooling. The school must be located in the district in which the JNV admission is sought.
  • A Candidate who has not been promoted and admitted to Class V before 15th September 2018 is not eligible to apply.
  • No candidate can appear in the selection test for the second time that means only one attempt is given for Navodaya Vidyalaya Admission.

For Class IX

  • Candidates must be studying in class 8th of any Government or Government recognized school. The school must be located in the district in which the JNV admission is sought.
  • Date of birth of the applying candidates should fall between 1st May 2004 and 30th April 2008 (both days inclusive).

JNVST Application Form 2020

The process of application will be completely online which means that the candidates can fill and submit their applications by visiting the official website www.navodaya.gov.in. All the important documents required in the form will also be uploaded through online mode only. The candidates can obtain the application form free of cost.

  • To fill the application form, the students will have to provide their personal details like name, parents’ name, gender, date of birth, category, etc.
  • Academic details of the candidates such as name and location of school, joining and passing year, etc will also be asked in the form.
  • Permanent identification mark which can be identified clearly shall be mentioned in the application form.
  • Choice of question paper language should be provided at the time of filling the application form only.
  • Signature of the candidates as well as their father/ guardian should be uploaded in the form.
  • Category certificate of the candidates in the prescribed format should also be uploaded in the application form.
  • The documents should be uploaded in jpg format of the size between 10-100 kb only.
  • After providing all the information correctly in the application form, the students can submit it.

Admit Card

  • The candidates whose applications are received on time can download the admit card for appearing in the exam.
  • Admit card can be downloaded by visiting the admission portal on the dates as specified in examination schedule.
  • Details of the exam center will be mentioned in the admit card and the students must only appear for the exam on the mentioned venue.
  • Candidates reporting to the exam center without the admit card will not be allowed to enter the exam hall.
  • The admit card should be kept safe till the whole process of admission is over.

Syllabus

Syllabus for class 6 will comprise some general topics whereas class 9 syllabus will comprise topics of class 8 level:

For Class VI

  • Mental Ability Test (MAT): Analogy, Odd-Man Out, Figure Matching, Pattern Completion, Geometrical Figure Completion, Mirror Imaging, Punched Hold Pattern, Space Visualization and Embedded Figure
  • Arithmetic Test: Number & Numeric System, Decimals, Percentage, Profit & Loss, Fundamental Operations On Whole & Fractional Number, Simple Interest, Fractions, Distance, Time & Speed, etc
  • Language Test: Reading Passage followed by some questions

For Class IX

  • English: Word & Sentence, Comprehension, Passivation, Tense Forms, Modal Auxiliaries, Rearranging Jumbled Words, Structure Spelling, Reported Speech, Use of Prepositions and Use of Degrees of Comparison
  • Hindi: Varna Vichaar, Shabd Bhed, Shabd Vivek, Antonym – Synonym, Sentence Correction, Formation of Sentences and Proverbs
  • General Science: Food, Material, Living/ Non Living, Reproduction, Force, Light, Electric Current, Natural Phenomena and Solar System
  • Mathematics: Rational Numbers, Direct & Inverse Proportion, Squares & Square Roots, Cubes & Cube Roots, Exponents & Powers, Mensuration, Data Handling, Quadrilaterals, Percentage, Profit & Loss, Discount, etc

Result

Result of the selection test will be announced as per the specified schedule. Marks obtained by the candidates will not be communicated.

Those who successfully clear the selection test will be allowed to participate in the further process of selection.

Selection & Admission

  • The shortlisted candidates are required to report for taking admission along with their important certificates.
  • Candidates applying under different quotas must carefully carry the supporting documents or else their candidature will stand cancelled.
  • All the documents of the candidates will be verified before offering the final admission.
  • Reservation will be provided to the candidates belonging to SC/ ST categories and those belonging to rural area.
  • With all these criteria in mind, finally selected candidates will be given admission into the JNVs.

Documents to be submitted

Parents of the selected candidates will have to submit the following documents at the time of verification:

  • Residence Certificate in prescribed proforma in case of NIOS study only
  • Proof for date of birth
  • Proof for eligibility as per the conditions of NVS
  • Certificate to the effect that the child had studied in an Institution located in a notified rural area, if applicable
  • Candidates studying under the schemes of National Institute of Open Schooling should produce their rural status certificate issued by District Magistrate/ Tahsildar/ Block Development Officer
  • Medical certificate signed by Chief Medical Officer of the District concerned, for PH candidates
  • Certificate from the transgender candidates issued by competent authority with regard to their gender
  • Any other documents as required

Reservation will be given to the candidates belonging to reserved categories as per the following:

Rural & Urban Candidates

Candidate claiming admission under rural quota must have studied and passed classes III, IV and V from a recognized school located in rural area. A candidate who has studied in a school located in an urban area even for a single day of session in Class-III, IV and V will be considered as an urban candidate. At least 75% of the seats in a district are filled by candidates selected from rural areas and remaining seats are filled from urban areas of the district.

Transgender Candidates

No separate reservation for transgender category candidates is provided and they will be included in Boys category for reservation under various sub-categories such as Rural, Urban, SC, ST and PH.
