Sam Worthington was born on 2 August 1976 in South East England, UK to Jeanne J. Worthington and Ronald W. Worthington. His mother was a housewife and his father was a power plant laborer. He also has a sister, Lucinda. Sam attended John Curtin College of the Arts which specialized in the dramatic arts. After he left college, Sam’s father sent him on a one-way trip to Queensland with $400 and asked him to earn his way home. He took a job at a construction site and many other odd jobs, settling eventually in Sydney. At one point, he also worked as a bricklayer. It was at this time that he auditioned for the National Institute of Dramatic Art and was accepted with a scholarship.

Worthington’s professional career began with the Australian dance movie “Bootmen” which was released in 2000. In the same year, he also appeared in small roles in television shows “JAG”, “Water Rats”, and “Blue Heelers” in a single episode of each of the show.
