His father is a billionaire businessman and the founder of Infosys while his mother is an engineer and author. Murty did his schooling at the Bishop Cotton Boys’ School in Bangalore. He had a passion for programming since a very young age and therefore after completing school, he moved to the US and enrolled in Cornell University to pursue an undergraduate course in Computer Science. He also earned a PhD degree in computer engineering from Harvard University in 2011. Rohan has also pursued a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship from Caltech and worked as an intern at Microsoft Research during his PhD. The title of his thesis at Harvard was Opportunistic Wireless Networks Architecture.
After completing his PhD, Rohan became a junior fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows in 2012 and remained a fellow till 2015.
