Once, Pandava king Yudhisthira asked Lord Shri Krishna to explain the importance and benefits of keeping fast on Shravana month Krishna Paksha Ekadashi. To explain the same, Lord Krishna narrates the conversation between Lord Brahma and DevarishiNarad.

Devarishi Narad was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. He wanted to know the benefit of Kamika Ekadashi Vrat. So, he asked Lord Brahma about the same. Lord Brahma said those who are guilty of doing some sins or misdeeds can get forgiveness from the Lord. Apart from this, they can also get riddance of the guilt of the sin and turn out to be better human beings.

Lord Brahma further explained the importance of Kamika Ekadashi, he said observing vrat on Kamika Ekadashi worth taking a bath in the sacred water of Ganga. He also explains that a person can get the benefit of visiting Kashi just by observing vrat on this day. That’s is the reason why it is often said that a person can get rid of all his sins and misdeeds by keeping vrat and doing penance on this day. Kamika Ekadashi Vrat Rituals

Given below are the rituals performed on the day of Kamika Ekadashi 2023.

First of all, devotees should rise early and wear clean clothes on this day.
Do vow (sankalp) and seek blessing from the almighty so that you can succeed in your vrat.
It is also important to maintain celibacy.
Devotees must not eat onion, and garlic on this day.
It is also prohibited to eat rice, wheat, other Tamasic food, and lentils.
In the milder version of this vrat, a devotee can eat fruits and other vrat recipes.
Devotees should worship the Lord by chanting the mantra of “OM NamoBhagavateVasudevaya”.
It is strictly prohibited to consume tobacco, alcohol, non-veg food on Kamika Ekadashi.
Devotees must main calm and be careful of what they say.
