Mumford was born on January 31 1987 in Yorba Linda, California, to Eleanor and John Mumford. Both his parents were international leaders of the Vineyard Churches. Marcus holds citizenship of both UK and US from birth. He has an older brother, James. Marcus grew up in southwest London where he attended King’s College School in Wimbledon. It was here that he met future band member Ben Lovett. Mumford was enrolled at the University of Edinburgh but left college to focus on his music career.

Since 2012, Marcus is married to his childhood pen pal Carey Mulligan with whom he reconnected as an adult. They both met while working on the film Inside Llewyn Davis and got married a few weeks after. The couple has two children.

Marcus Mumford Professional Career

Mumford began his career by playing drums for Laura Marling along with the members of his band. However, they were not a band at the time and only formed the band after the members gained experience of playing gigs and showed their interest in performing as a group. As a part of Mumford & Sons, Marcus produced four albums named Sigh No More (2009), Babel (2012), Wilder Mind (2015), and Delta (2018).

In 2013, Mumford sang a cover song for the Coen brothers’ film Inside Llewyn Davis, and in 2014, he was featured on the album Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes.
