National Technology Day History

On May 11, 1999, the day was first commemorated. The date was chosen since it was on this day that India joined the elite squad of nuclear-armed nations. India recently accomplished three nuclear tests at the Indian Army’s Pokhran Testing Range which is situated in Rajasthan on 11^th May, 1998. The trials were carried out as part of Operation Shakti.

The test launch of India’s surface-to-air missile Trishul was also completed on the 11th of May. The tests were carried out by the DRDO as part of India’s Integrated Guided Missile Development Program. It has been accepted into the Indian Army and Air Force.

The government chose to designate the day as National Technology Day as a result of all of these technical achievements.
