AFCAT: Air Force Common Admission Test

The Indian Air Force conducts the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) twice a year in February and August. The exam is conducted for selecting Class-I Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties under both technical and non-technical domain. Male and Female both are welcome to apply for this exam. The selection of candidates is based on their performance in entrance exam and Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) interview. Candidates who are willing to opt Ground Duty (Technical) they necessarily have to appear for both AFCAT and Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT).

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria

To become eligible for AFCAT you need to fulfill certain criteria as said below:

Nationality Criteria: Only Indian citizens are permitted to apply.

Age Criteria: Following age criteria are to be fulfilled by candidates of different categories:

  • Flying Branch: The age of candidates should be in between 20 to 24 years. However, candidates having Commercial Pilot License are relaxed by 26 years.
  • Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch: Candidates’ age should be in between 20 to 26 years.

Marital Status

  • Candidates who are under 26 should be unmarried while starting of course.
  • Widows/Widowers and divorcees who are under 25 can’t apply.
  • You are not allowed to marry during the period of training.
  • Married candidates above 25 years of age are permitted to apply however they won’t get a married accommodation and they can’t live with their family.

Minimum Education

Flying Branch

  • Class 12th pass with 60% marks along with Physics and Maths and a Graduate with 60% or its equivalent. Or,
  • 60% or its equivalent in BE/BTech
  • Section A & B examination of or Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) with at least 60%.

Ground Duty (Non-Technical)

A graduate with 60% marks. Or

Passed section A&B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) with minimum 60% marks

Ground Duty Technical Branch

For Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics):

60% marks scored in Math & Physics separately in 10+2 with 4 years degree in Engineering & Technology. Or,

Sections A and B of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Graduate membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers through actual studies with 60%.

Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical)

60% scored in Math and Physics in 10+2 and have degree or integrate PG in engineering & technology or,

Cleared sections A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies or Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) with at least 60% marks

Education

MCA/MBA or MSc/MA with securing 50% & 60% marks in Grduation.

Physical

Candidates must be fit physically and mentally.

AFCAT application form will be accessible to candidates by visiting the official website of Indian Air Force. You need to have your aadhaar card with you in order apply for the exam. Candidates can pay the application fee amount Rs.250/- in online mode.

AFCAT Exam Pattern

The language mode of the question paper is English.

All questions will be objective type only.

AFCAT test has four sections- Verbal Ability in English, General Awareness, Numerical Ability and Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test.

3 marks will be added for every correct attempt.

1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect attempt.
