Salary of Indian Army Field Marshal

• The post of a Field Marshal in the Indian Army is only ceremonial. It is not included in the normal hierarchy or salary structure.
• Till now, only two officers in the Indian army have reached up to the rank of Field Marshal. These SHFJ Manekshaw and KM Cariappa. These two decorated officers have played instrumental roles in Indian Victories over Pakistan.

Every year, the Indian Army releases a large number of vacancies of various posts. When you see the advertisement you will see the salary written in the form of a pay scale. It is so because the personnel in Indian army are offered lucrative salary packages along with remuneration benefits. The benefits apart from the salary also depend upon the post on which you are working currently.

What are Indian Army Grade Pay and Basic Pay?

Indian Army Grade Pay – In simple words, we can say that Grade pay is the amount that Indian Army employees receive according to the category, pay band, and a class of employee. The grade pay is calculated according to the post of an employee as per the 7^th pay commission.

Please note that the Grade pay remains fixed until the employee gets the next promotion. Grade pay is the new term that is introduced in the 6^th pay commission.

Indian Army Basic Pay – This is the basic income of an Indian Army employee. Generally, this amount is around 35% – 50% of the amount that an Army Personnel gets in hand every month. Unlike, Grade Pay, the Basic pay changes every year. Simply, you can say that Basic Pay = Grade pay + pay in the pay band.

Indian Army Allowance

Apart from the basic pay and grade pay, the personnel in the Indian army also get many other allowances. Please note that all these allowances are not given to every soldier of the army. Different allowances are applicable for various posts and the location of posts. For example – the Siachen allowance is given only to the soldiers working in the Siachen glaciers. Salary during NDA Training Period

Cadets do not get any pocket money at the time of training in the National Defence Academy. In fact, cadets have to deposit some amount of money for his/ her training. However, some of the deposited money is refundable. Details of the same are given in the following table.

The remuneration gets started once a cadet is selected for training in Indian Military Academy (IMA), Air Force Academy, or Naval Academy. The salary of around Rs. 21000/- per month starts as soon as he/ she reaches these academies. Remember, the cadet in IMA is entitled to get the salary of a Lieutenant (Flying officer for Air Force Academy). The rest of the amount is credited to him as an outstanding payment.
