What is Unga? List of Members in Unga

The second World War was massively destructive to say the least. The countries of the world were left in ruins, huge amounts of physical capital were destroyed due to numerous bombing activities and battles. Many families were left completely broken and young children witnessed scenarios beyond their emotional maturity.

Economical and political situation of the countries that took part in the war was extremely poor. After analyzing these and many more ill effects of the World War, United Nations was established in 1945 with the intention of maintaining world peace and preventing such wars in the future.

United Nations is where all the representatives of the countries from different parts of the world come together to discuss topics that have a global concern, main focus being peace and security. General Assembly, the Trusteeship Council, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the International Court of Justice, and the UN Secretariat are the main bodies of United Nations.

What is United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)?

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making representative organ of the United Nations established in 1945. UNGA provides a forum for a wide range of discussions of issues that are considered global concern.

Power and functions of the General Assembly: –

The Assembly possesses the power to present recommendations to States on international issues that it could work on. It has also initiated actions – political, economic, humanitarian, social and legal – which have proven beneficial for the lives of millions of people around the world. The reports reflect the determination of member states of the UNGA to reach security, peace, along with eradicating poverty and all-around development. The GA also focuses on protecting human rights and the climate against climate change.

Each state holds one vote in the decision-making process as GA believes in seeing and treating everyone as an equal and each member is given the freedom to express their views on international issues.

Last year marked the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 76), opening in New York on September 14, 2021, where important vaccines and their distribution were the nucleus of the discussion.
