A brand new UPI for feature phone has been launched by the Reserve Bank of India on March 8, 2022- UPI 123Pay which lets users to make digital payments, money transfer, bills payment and avail various other extraordinary features without internet. The best thing is that you don’t need a smartphone and internet connection to use UPI 123Pay app. All digital payments can be made using your feature phone.

What is UPI 123Pay: On Tuesday March 8, 2022, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has launched a new UPI app- UPI 123Pay for over 400 million feature phone or ordinary mobile phone users. This app allows users to make digital payments with security from their feature phone only. Users can make digital payments, pay utility bills, buy tags for automobiles and avail many other digital banking services without a smartphone and internet connection. Let’s discuss how it works?

“UPI123Pay will digitally empower millions across the country and help NPCI achieve its dream of billion-plus daily UPI transactions,” said Biswamohan Mahapatra, chairman, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

How to Use UPI 123Pay?

UPI 123Pay operation is based on three key models- call, select and pay. The process has been made simpler so that every group of people can use all features of UPI 123Pay without any technical difficulties. Learn below how can features phone users make digital payments using UPI 123Pay?

Step 1: Before you choose to make payment using UPI 123Pay, you need to link your bank account with your feature phone.

Step 2: Further, you need to set a UPI PIN using your debit card issued by your bank.

Step 3: Once you have set your UPI PIN you can make digital payments like smartphone users.

The feature phone users are required to make a call on IVR number and choose the service required whether it is to transfer money, fasttag recharge or LPG gas payment.

If you are willing to transfer money using UPI 123Pay then you need to enter mobile number of the recipient followed by your UPI Pin and your payment is successful. In case of payment to merchant, you can use UPI 123Pay app or missed call service. Voice method has been also enabled in the app for making digital payments easily.

Four Major Options to Use UPI 123Pay

  1. UPI 123Pay App: The UPI 123Pay app will be installed to your feature phone which will allow users to use digital payments features of the app.
  2. Give a Miss Call: You can give a miss call on the number displayed at merchant outlet and access your bank account and avail service like transfer and receive money, make bill payments etc.
  3. IVR: You can make a call on pre-notified IVR number and complete UPI 123Pay set up to make digital transactions without internet.
  4. Sound-based Payments: This feature is also enabled on UPI 123Pay platform.

Digisaathi (24×7 helpline Number) Launched for Digital Payment Related Concerns

“At present, UPI services are available for such users through the USSD-based services, but the same has been found to be cumbersome and all the mobile operators do not allow such services, The Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor T Rabi Shankar said.”

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has set up a 24×7 helpline number for digital payment concerns of users. The helpline number was launched by Shaktikanta Das named Digisaathi on March 8, 2022.
