Shri Satyanarayan Vrat Katha

Once Yogi Narad ji while traveling saw the creatures of the mortal world (Mratyu lok) being troubled by different kinds of miseries as per their respective deeds (Karam). Due to this, his heart felt very bad and he reached Kshirsagar, performing Hari Kirtan in the shelter of Lord Shri Hari and said ‘O Nath! If you are pleased with me, then please tell me some small remedy to get rid of the sufferings of the creatures of Mratyu lok.

Then the Lord said, ‘O Vatsa! You have asked a very beautiful question in the spirit of world welfare. So thank you. Today I tell you such a fast which is rare even in heaven and is of great virtue and is going to cut the bond of attachment and that is Shree Satyanarayan Vrat. By doing this according to law, a person enjoys worldly pleasures and attains salvation

After this, seeing a poor Brahmin of Kashipur city begging, Lord Vishnu himself in the form of an old Brahmin went to that poor Brahmin and said, ‘O Vipra! Lord Satyanarayan is the giver of desired results. You should do his fasting and worship, by doing which a person becomes free from all kinds of sorrows. Fasting also has its own importance, but fasting doesn’t mean that you should only avoid food. At the time of fasting, there should be a belief in the heart that today Shri Satyanarayan Bhagwan is seated with us. Therefore, cleanliness should be maintained inside and outside and by worshiping God with faith and faith, listen to his auspicious story. In the evening, this fast-worship is considered to be more effective.

From Shri Satyanarayan Vrat, we get the education that Satyarup Brahm is present in us in the form of Jivatma. We are all embodiments of truth, but coming under the control of Maya, we are getting engrossed in the world thinking of collecting things that perish. Removing this ignorance and accepting the truth and worshiping the Lord is the religion of man. This is the essence of Satyanarayan Vrat and Katha.

Note: We have provided with you a summarized version of the Satyanarayan Katha. Actually, there are 5 chapters in this Katha and all of them are quite detailed.
