In the New York Times in 1969 it was reported that “Many men have been agitating privately to make February 23 International Men’s Day, the equivalent of March 8, which is International Women’s day“.
Finally in 1999, International Men’s Day was founded by Dr Jerome Teelucksingh, a history lecturer at University of the West Indies in Trinidad Tabago. November 19 was selected as the day of observation and along with International Men’s Day on November 20, the day forms a 48-hour celebratory event.
