Ayurveda is a natural system of medicine that has its advantages over modern medicine system. It has its own advantages, strengths and unique treatment principles. In an attempt to further promote Ayurveda into mainstream, the National Ayurveda Day is observed every year with great zeal and fervor. The day also focuses on reducing the burden of disease and related morbidity and mortality by utilizing the potential of Ayurveda.

To research the potential of Ayurveda to bestow towards health policy & health programmes of the nation, to create a sense of awareness in today’s generation and to promote Ayurvedic principles of treatment, National Ayurveda Day 2023 will be observed on November 11, 2023.

History of National Ayurveda Day

Ayurveda is considered as one of the most ancient and well-documented system of medicine that is equally relevant in modern times. The main aim of Ayurveda is not merely to treat ailments but at the same time heal your mind, body and soul as well. Its holistic approach for healthy individuals or diseased ones is truly exceptional.

The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India proposed the celebration of National Ayurveda Day to promote this system of medicine in the nation and make people aware of its various advantages. The proposal was accepted in 2015 and since 2016, every year National Ayurveda Day is celebrated. Birth anniversary of Indian mythological God, Lord Dhanwantari or Dhanwantari Jayanti was chosen as the day of celebration. Lord Dhanwantari is considered as the divine propagator of Ayurveda and grants health and wealth to the devotees. Therefore, Dhanwantari Jayanti was chosen for celebration of Ayurveda Day all over the nation.

Ayurveda Day in 2023 will be observed on November 11, 2023. The celebrations will be in collaboration with all the Ministries and departments of Government of India. The goal is to make every person of the nation aware of traditional system of medicine with the 3Js- Jan Sandesh, Jan Bhagidari, and Jan Aandolan.
