Life History of Saint Kabir Das

According to a legend, Kabir was born to a Brahmin unwed mother in Varanasi, by a seedless conception and delivered through the palm of her hand. When she abandoned him in a basket floating in a pond, he was picked up and raised by a Muslim family. However, the theory presented in this legend is rejected by modern historians and it is believed that Kabir was born and brought up in a family of Muslim weavers. Some also say that Kabir appeared on a lotus flower in the lake Lahartara.

Kabir wrote many poems and dohas based mainly on devotion, mysticism and discipline, through which he tried to convey the true meaning of life. Written in a very simple language, his dohas have also been a part of school curriculum. He was also the founder of Kabir Panth, a community who spreads the teachings and preaches of Sant Kabir in the whole world. Its members are known as Kabir Panthis.

Pooja and aarti are observed in other temples as well. Special prasad is made on the day of Kabirdas Jayanti in temples and distributed among his devotees.

Many charitable work are also performed by his followers Kabir Panthis on the day of Kabir Jayanti. Activities like play based on kabir’s work, singing and dancing based on his poems, etc are carried out in many schools and colleges in the celebration of his birth anniversary. It is not Kabir Jayanti but Kabir Prakat Diwas because Lord Kabir did not got birth from the womb of any mother, if so then what was the name of her mother and father because we all know that lord kabir was got by Neeru and Neema at Lahartara pond. Lord Kabir appeared on a lotus of Lahartara pond in Kashi where a disciple of Ramanand was sitting for meditation. He was witness to this incident when lord Kabir descended to earth from his eternal place Satlok.
